Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2018:Peace Mission

Hello, readers in the past couple of months from June 2018 to August 2018 many times we all heard about SCO i.e: Shanghai cooperation organization.

I was also trying to enhance my information on this topic so, I could write a detailed post on it.

Finally going through the newspapers and news channels whatever knowledge I gained on this topic, want to share with you mainly about Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2018: Peace Mission.

The first question comes to our mind is: What is SCO?

SCO stands for Shanghai cooperation organization(SCO) is also known as Shanghai pact.

It was established on 15th June 2001 in Shanghai China by the leaders of China, Russia, Tazakista, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan.

The organization is a Eurasian (Eurasia is a combined continental landmass of Europe and Asia) political, security and economic union.

How does it work?

The Heads of  State Council(HSC) is the utmost decision-making body of the organization(SCO). The meetup held once in a year and all the important decisions and guidelines are made

including military exercises which conducted on regular basis to promote harmonization against terrorism among the group members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO).

The group members also participate in intelligence sharing and counterterrorism operations in central Asia. On the verge of the organization’s expansion, they are also including healthcare, education, technology, science, tourism, media, sports, culture and many other sectors.

But mainly the organization is focused on security-related concerns in central Asia as they see, terrorism, extremism, and separatism as the main security threats for the SCO members.

India and Pakistan became a permanent member of SCO on 9th June 2017 at Astana in Kazakhstan summit.

Shanghai cooperation organization is one of the most powerful organizations among the Asian countries, it has the world ’s strongest military alliances and also it is the largest regional organization in terms of geographical coverage.

So, all together in the present days, SCO is one of the world’s most powerful and influential organizations as it covers not only a huge geographical area and population but also it has the strongest military alliances.

The main motto of the Shanghai-cooperation-organization-summit-2018 Peace Mission is :

To deal with growing terrorism and extremism.
The peace mission will be conducted under the framework of SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure(RATS) headquartered at Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
The military alliance of the SCO members will play mock drills to fight and deal with the terrorist groups and the intervention in a hostage situation.

Around 3000 soldiers from eight SCO members took part in Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2018: Peace Mission

The Russian army had a major participation with 1700 army personnel.
China on 2nd no with 700 soldiers.

The Shanghai peace mission exercise takes place every two years.

Earlier this Shanghai Peace mission limited to only central Asia. But when India and Pakistan became its permanent member in June 2017 the SCO expanded to South Asia.

The main attraction of  Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2018:Peace Mission was India and Pakistan, as Indian soldiers never participated in any joint military exercise that includes Pakistan. But this was the first time when both countries participated jointly in a multilateral exercise against terrorism.
